The Fabric and Restoration Committee continue to pursue a schedule of works to preserve the historic building and correct the damage (particularly damp) exacerbated by past repairs. This involves the time consuming efforts of committee volunteers and the Benefice team to prepare and submit detailed applications to grant funding bodies.

Creating a Vision for the future

Alongside this the Benefice team and Fabric and Restoration Committee are preparing a Vision for St Andrew’s for submission to the Diocese which embraces the Medieval heritage and links this to future demands and expectations. All this within a structure that is architecturally exciting, respectful and stimulating for the whole community and visitors, not just the regular congregation. The desire is to create a flexible space suited to inclusive worship and varied cultural activity. The opportunities are tremendous!

There is an urgent need for a strategy to address the energy consumption in the church to provide a comfortable, affordable environment which is future-proof. This strategy needs to consider how the space is used, heating, lighting and acoustics.

It is this emergent Vision that the Friends has been re-established to further. It is a heartfelt hope that everybody in the wider community who appreciates and values St Andrew’s and its place in the Cuckmere Valley will show their support, financially and by getting involved, to create a secure future for this historic gem and the generations who will benefit from what it has to offer.
